TPVI is covered by health insurance in Taiwan

In Taiwan, there are around 100 newborns  who suffer from TOF(Tetralogy of Fallot).

Those TOF patients need to undergo surgery. However, in 20% to 30% of the cases, when they grow up, they will be combined with abnormal pulmonary valve, which will cause a heavy burden on the right ventricle.

Patients who undergo traditional open-heart surgery are required to stay in hospital for 10-14 days, also, there is a visible scar on their chest.

Compared to traditional open-heart surgery,TPVI(Transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation) is obviously safer. After TPVI procedure, patient only need to stay in hopsital for 3-4 days, which means patients recover quickly.

But the main disadvantage of tpvi is expensive medical spend. Originally ,patients need to afford around 1,000,000 (TWD) on their own.

Fortunately, TPVI had been covered by health insurance at the end of 2021, which benefits lots of TOF patients .
